Identity Application Testing for the Department of Social Protection (Ireland)

Our Consultants have performed several pieces of work for the Department of Social Protection (DSP) in Ireland and following that Hyperlab were asked to perform independent application testing of an identity application.
The testing was broken into several groupings which included golden path, negative and penetration testing. The application was tested on smart cards as issued using several pieces of bespoke (in-house) software and industry standard smart card hardware test tools.
The testing performed allowed the DSP and their application supplier to validate the application developed and to get a ‘fresh pair of eyes’ on the application. This concept is a regular part of our testing and development methodology. We test and certify components for partners and clients to verify their implementations. When we are developing or specifying a system we use distinct teams of developers and testers who take on separate roles. This methodology is an implementation of the principle of ‘separation of duty’ which increases the effectiveness of our testing and enhances security analysis.
